Grandview submitted a proposal to Government in early fall last year, requesting funding to help us to build a badly needed new facility. The proposal was well-received, but was subsequently put on hold because of the McGuinty Government’s intention to develop a new infrastructure plan.

The Government has just announced that it is seeking public input for this new 10-year plan. Ontarians are invited to provide their opinions on priorities for their communities. We believe that a new Grandview is a priority for Durham Region. We have vastly outgrown our space at the main Oshawa site – this is despite the addition of two satellite locations – one in Ajax and one in Whitby. And, even though we have a good maintenance record, the Oshawa site, opened in 1983, has several limitations that negatively affect service delivery.
 
The proposal we submitted includes a preliminary design for one consolidated facility – likely located in Ajax. The design includes much more therapy space, improved confidentiality and enhanced safety features (including parking lot lay-out).
Grandview currently serves about 4,300 children with disabilities and special needs each year. And the need for services is expected to grow significantly over the next 20 years.
