Grandview's 2012 Independence Retreat: Give Your Everything
"Give Your Everything." That was the powerful theme of Grandview's 2012 Independence Retreat held from July 30 to August 1 at Eaglewood Resort, a camp in Pefferlaw, Ontario.
Grandview's Independence Retreat is an annual event that enables clients from age 12 to 15 to experience two nights away from home.
The kids get an opportunity to meet new friends, face new challenges and learn valuable skills that will help them become more independent.
Every camper sets a personal goal for the retreat - and this year each goal was unique, from starting a conversation with a peer, to making ribs on the BBQ!
We also 'live tweet' our escapades to keep parents - and the community - up to date on all of our adventures via Grandview's Twitter account.
Eaglewood Resort has been our host for the last several years and is a fully accessible farm with cabins available to rent.
But the best parts of Eaglewood Resort are the campfires and the horseback riding!
The kids were well-supervised and had a lot of fun with the staff and volunteers who sacrificed 3 days away from their families so the kids could enjoy the Independence Retreat:
- Physiotherapist Corrie Dixon
- Occupational Therapist Alice Wong
- Occupational Therapy Assistant / Physiotherapy Assistant Kara Graham
- Registered Nurse Kim Walker
- Personal Support Workers Bev and Pam
- Volunteers
We're grateful to Grandview graduate Scott Bremner, a producer and host for Rogers TV Durham Region, for being our guest speaker at the retreat. He spoke to the kids about what it means to "Give Your Everything."
Grandview's staff and volunteers are very proud of the effort they saw from the kids who attended this year's Independence Retreat, and think that everyone did a wonderful job making new friends and lasting memories!
Congratulations to Grandview's 2012 Independence Retreat participants: Alexa, Brandon, Ishmael, Jake, Jordan, Joshua, Lauren, Mila, Natalie, Tyler and Zackery!
