Congratulations to our 2012 Grandview Staff Award Winners

At Grandview Children’s Centre, we take great pride in our most valuable asset, our staff. To honour their work, the following award winners were announced at our 27th Annual General Meeting on June 14, 2012:

1. "The Power of One" Annual Award Winner: Lindsay Gurr, Physiotherapist

Our talented staff work hard every day to make Grandview a warm and welcoming place where the needs of children and their families can be met with dignity and respect.

Every spring, we invite families tell us how a certain staff member has made a difference for their child or youth and their family.

Any Grandview staff member can be nominated.

Lindsay Gurr was nominated for "The Power of One" Award by the Allender family because she always made Brayden Allender and his whole family feel special, and she included the whole family in learning how to help him. When he finally received a diagnosis and it was determined that he would require AFOs (Ankle Foot Orthotics), Brayden and his parents were very emotional. Lindsay announced that they were going to turn him into a superhero with amazing powers, and Brayden was the first Grandview Kid ever to have Angry Birds (from his favourite video game) imprinted on his custom AFOs. Lindsay met with Brayden's school to ensure a smooth transition for him, and constantly bolstered the family through an emotional time, reassuring the family that their son was a bright, amazing boy, and that as his parents, they were doing amazing things to help him. Mrs. Allender states that she was given a gift the day she was introduced to Lindsay.

• exemplifies the Grandview culture
• have demonstrated innovation, creativity and adaptability while carrying out their roles and responsibilities
• visionary
• accept no less than excellence in their personal work ethic
• loyal to Grandview Children’s Centre

Any Grandview staff member can be nominated.

Cathy Vey and Serena Chow were nominated for the "Making a Difference" Award for going above and beyond, making an extraordinary contribution, demonstrating innovation, creativity and adaptability while accepting no less than excellence in their personal work practices. Cathy and Serena demonstrate care, detail and creativity in their work with clients every day, and specifically for the "cast camp" idea that they took from an education conference, utilizing students to do research on the project, then pairing with Grandview's Recreation services to bring this program to Grandview’s families. Their patience, perseverance and courage to bring this new research through to reality at Grandview is appreciated.

3. "Career Recognition" Annual Award Winner: Kris Novak, Manager of Clinical Information Services

Staff receiving this award would have been employed by Grandview in excess of twenty years, and have made a difference at Grandview through their service and contributions.

Kris is a consummate professional who continuously strives for excellence in all that she does. She tackles new challenges with optimism, and thinks on her feet, providing spontaneous detailed information in a kind, gentle, and thorough manner. She handles all her usual “small” responsibilities, like privacy, dealing with the referral process for families, consent issues, etc., and does monumental projects like our Goldcare (new clinical information system) implementation. Kris embodies, “Whatever it takes to get the job done!” She is warm and welcoming of all staff, and has earned the respect of her colleagues at Grandview.
