Education
Each year, 28 students are admitted to the Campbell Children's School (CCS) program, and are divided into 4 classes. Spaces are also available for students referred by Grandview requiring short-term post-surgery placements. Each class has an integrated group of children of various ages (usually JK, SK, and Grade One) and abilities, and includes students with multiple needs and children with severe speech needs. Daily transportation is offered.
Our students' home boards may be Durham District School Board (DDSB), Durham Catholic District School Board (DSCSB), Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board (KPRDSB), or Peterborough Victoria Northumberland Clarington Catholic District School Board (PVNCCDSB).
The teachers at Campbell Children's School are members of the Ontario College of Teachers. Each teacher has the Specialist level of Special Education qualifications. The educational assistants have extensive training, which may include Early Childhood Education, Personal Support Worker, and Educational Assistant Certificates. Coop students from universities, colleges, and high school programs may do placements in the school, and volunteers are welcome.
Educational services include:
- an Individual Education Plan (IEP) for each student which may include modifications and accommodations to the regular curriculum or an alternative program;
- swim, drama, and music programs;
- liaison and follow-up with home school board;
- regular communication of progress with parents through the daily communication book, interviews, IEP, report cards and phone calls
